Wind Band - Sinfonisch poem opus 131, written in 1967 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the great October socialist revolution in the Soviet Unie.Het year 1967 was the fiftieth anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution, and all the artists of the Soviet Union became contribution expected for these festivities. Shostakovich main gift was his symphonic poem October, written in the powerful film-style he used in many of his works. The composition is full of heroism sturdy, thick fabric and bombastic orchestral climaxes, when all the traditional procedure of counting of the revolution in 1917. Shostakovich used in this work in a nice catchy Song of the Partisans in 1937 he had composed for the film Volochayev Days which deals with the struggle of the Bolsheviks against a Japanese invasion in 1918.
