Preludio e Fuga - Wind Band
Wind Band - This piece of music you want to detach from any kind of descriptive music; to retrieve strictly musical forms rarely used in music for the wind band.
The entire piece is modal; based on the Aeolian mode (natural minor scale). The prelude, which takes up almost exactly half of the entire song, is characterized by an obsessive pulsing of the tonic, which is placed in juxtaposition of the long notes on major scale degrees: I, IV, V and VII. These long notes in turn are counter-pointed by ascending and descending scales which generate a series of emiolie leading to the climax at the end of which, the obsessive rhythm generates an initial well-defined theme.
The new theme, after a development, becomes, with small variations and seamlessly, the subject of the fugue. The fugue is for four voices and develops in an academic manner.
