Novorossiisk Chimes - Fanfare Band

Fanfare Band - The "Funeral and Triumphal Prelude" titled Novorossiisk Chimes has been given the subtitle "The Flame of Eternal Glory". This work is based on the first bars of an unsuccessful start of a new Russian national anthem during a composition competition in 1943. Shostakovich used this material as well as a continuation of the hymn "The Flame of Eternal Glory" for this work. He composed in 1960, commissioned by the city of Novorossiisk work "Novorossiisk Chimes" in memory of the fallen heroes in the "Battle of Stalingrad". The work was subsequently premiered on September 27, 1960 in Moscow and is to this day every hour played by the clock above the war memorial in Novorossiisk, a city known as the gateway to the "Black Sea" is mentioned.
