Monologue - Wind Band

Wind Band - Monologue (2009) was inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach. In this work a continuing and reiterating melodic line, beginning with a single saxophone, unfolds into a full orchestra, powerfully and with great feeling. Whilst composing, I hold a continual inner monologue about the work I am composing, and what it should sound like, hence the title. Personal addition: Bach is tremendously inspiring to me, as he is too many composers. As an organist, I have had the opportunity to perform a great many of his works, which I consider a real privilege. His music is almost indestructible, a beacon to all musicians.
