Jazz Suite Nr.2 - Part 5: Little Polka - Fanfare Band
Fanfare Band - The Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich wrote his Jazz Suite Nr. 2 in 1938 commissioned by the Russian State Orchestra for Jazz. This orchestra was then under the musical direction of Serge Koussevitzky. As in his first suite also comes in this second jazz suite the genius and the sense of humor of the composer strongly evident. Although the name suggests that with real unadulterated jazz deal, this is not entirely true. On the contrary, the composition contains virtually no jazz elements. It's more of a ballet suite western especially Viennese - influences from the romance. The fifth part of the Jazz Suite No.2 Shostakovich - The Little Polka - is an extremely light-hearted piece of music. Full of humor and sarcasm follow one after another variation on the opening theme of the xylophone. Spicy solos, particularly the clarinets are not shunned. The name of this part of the suite somewhat deceiving, the title gives the impression that one is dealing with a simple piece of music. Nothing is less true. In operation for concert band, the harp and the piano-party ad lib.
