Jazz Suite Nr.2 - Part 3: Folk Festival - Wind Band

Wind Band - The Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich wrote his Jazz Suite Nr. 2 in 1938 commissioned by the Russian State Orchestra for Jazz. This orchestra was then under the musical direction of Serge Koussevitzky. As in his first suite also comes in this second jazz suite the genius and the sense of humor of the composer strongly evident. Although the name suggests that with real unadulterated jazz deal, this is not entirely true. On the contrary, the composition contains virtually no jazz elements. It's more of a ballet suite western especially Viennese - influences from the romance. Folk Festival This is part 3 from the suite. On the Second Waltz after this is perhaps the most famous piece of music from this suite. The Folk Festival was heard in the film "The Gadfly" and became well known under the name "National Holiday". Folk Festival is an upbeat, festive "Perpetuum Mobile", dazzling and overwhelming. The Italian gaiety through Russian eyes reminiscent of street music in Romeo and Juliet by Sergei Prokofiev. This music is from the beginning to the end virtuoso and driving.
