Caligula - Fanfare Band
Fanfare Band - The euphonium concert is the musical embodiment of the insane, perverse Caligula. It opens very virtuoso, followed by a sultry erotic middle part and ends with the last breath of the Emperor.
1 - Opening
The piece opens virtuoso and restless, equal to Caligula's mental state. Besides unrest calls early heroic feelings, thinking of victorious armies bloody primitive tribes wipe out. Caligula seems not quite lost in this part.
2 - Middle Part
The middle part is a melancholic erotic part where Caligula's turmoil for a moment gives way to lust, alcohol and depression. A lament interrupted by a sexual climax in the brass, the heroism comes back up out of the hole. Finally Caligula appears in a last bright moment aware of his crazy life.
3 - End
The clear point is in the third final place for an unleashed Caligula. All his crime, violence, perversion is in this part of the course. His brute power he abused to his own pleasure. The insane Caligula does not notice that his environment hatred and wants to murder him. Caligula with 30 stab wounds were killed, the last note of the euphonium is the last breath, the deranged soul that the body, leaving the earthly instrument.
The work is dedicated to euphonium player Gerd Wensink for its first phase conservatory exam.
