Solitary Prayer for Euphonium and Piano
Solitary Prayer was commissioned in 2013 by Dutch euphonium virtuoso Robbert Vos. He wrote me that he was looking for a quiet and slow composition in addition to his new CD program, and so I came up with the idea for Solitary Prayer.
The simple opening theme is first presented by euphonium and later by solo-cornet/flügelhorn. Then the slightly extended theme, complemented by a counterpoint in the euphonium, leads into a first tutti. After a further intervention by the soloist, a second, larger tutti passage with wide and grand chords follows, after which the composition is completed in a friendly atmosphere.
At the request of many now available for euphonium and piano.
