Village in the City - Wind Band

Wind Band - This composition was commissioned by Harmoniecorps Tuindorp from Amsterdam on the occasion of it’s 100th anniversary. Three important themes from the history of Tuindorp are highlighted musically. Firstly, the presence of the shipyard NDSM, interpreted by a grand and sparkling opening. Secondly, the flood disaster after the dike breach in 1960. The stillness in the music refers to the desolate sight of the abandoned and submerged houses. And thirdly, the multicultural society. This is reflected in the music through Moroccan, Caribbean and Eastern influences. This own identity makes Tuindorp a village within a city (Amsterdam).
